I have a Mercury Tracer 1999 model. I recently went on a trip and I guess it was sitting too long un-driven because when I got back and tried to drive it the gear shift was locked. The engine turns on and everything else works fine but when I try to shift from park it won\´t let me. My thinking is that there is an automatic lock on the gear shift but that is only a guess. Is there some way to override this lock if that is correct? Is it something else entirely? Please help!! It is a used car and I don\´t have the owner\´s manual and every mechanic I ask gives me different suggestions. Any comments are appreciated, I just want to find out what is wrong with it!! Thanks.  |
